EXPANDING
BOUNDARIES
The successfull effect of experiencing extreme situations -
A talk on motivation by the expedition leader Arved Fuchs
How do I react to
unforeseen events?
How do I handle my fear?
How do I choose a team?
These are questions which do not only arise during expeditions, but also
in companies or in simple everyday situations. With this talk on
motivation, Arved Fuchs offers an individual transfer of experience; the
mechanisms, which lead him to success or failure are often the same,
which lead other people to success or failure.
EXPANDING
BOUNDARIES offers you and your employees or clients an insight
into an unusual but successful way to work and to live. Expanding
Boundaries is a vivid presentation with exciting accounts and impressive
shots of life during an expedition. Arved Fuchs, an adventurer, who is
willing to go to extremes, has always set himself ambitious goals. On
his expeditions, he has specialized himself with the Arctic regions and
with ocean sailing. Difficult outer conditions, for example the extreme
cold, are as typical a part of his expeditions as are the interpersonal
problems which arise through living together in close quarters with a
minimum private sphere.
Neither is it his intention, nor will Arved Fuchs attempt to tell you
how to adapt these principles of leadership to your company, but you
will be amazed to see what parallels there are between an alleged
"normal" company and the seeming high-risk daily life of an expedition.
Beginning with the finding of ideas, through the definition of goals and
plans, every project should come to a successful conclusion. Especially
in extreme situations, the aspects of good management, ris analysis,
team development and leadership, as well as the motivation of team
members, are just as important, as are the handling of stress and fear
or opposition. Whether in a company or on board a ship during an
expedition, the same questions arise in crisis situations: How does one
handle fear? Which solutions are there? How do we put emotion on a
rational level? How can team spirit keep motivation high or even made it
stronger. What can we learn through failure?
EXPANDING
BOUNDARIES also means accepting challenge, overcoming fear,
solving difficult situations. Arved Fuchs is constantly being confronted
with his boundaries during his expeditions. Recognizing boundaries,
dealing with them properly and realizing that they can be pushed aside,
are all a great part of the goals we set ourselves. Each boundary we
overcome brings a sense of achievement with it, and acts, at the same
time, in a motivating way for further goals. This supports the ability
to make decisions quickly and alos opens up new horizons on the way to a
goal. In companies as well as on expeditions, it is the commitment,
ability and motivation of each individual (also and especially as a team
member) which determine the results.
Many people consider Arved Fuchs to be a gambler. This could not be
further from the truth. Fuchs leaves nothing to chance during his
projects. Careful planning and careful consideration of the risks
involved, have top priority from the first stage on of the planning.
Allow yourself to find out, through the vivid report of extreme
situations experienced by a level-headed adventurer, what expanding
boundaries means for him. Experience how he shapes his own private and
professional life according to his own ideas and at the same time raises
the quality of his life through constant change and challenge, both on
his own and in a team.
Ideas which seem adventurous often deliver
creative food forthought.
They sometimes lay the foundation for other perspectives and
possibilities.
They sometimes even go beyond boundaries...
