ARVED FUCHS

Fuchs, Arved -
Born 1953. He has been fascinated by polar exploration since his early childhood. After leaving school he trained with the merchant navy to be properly equipped for later missions. He studied Vessels Operational Technology as far as the intermediate examination at the technical college in Flensburg and then became self-employed. He gained experience of traditional ships by sailing with the "Clipper", "Aphritite", "Albatros" and "Thor Heyerdahl". Finally, he bought and renovated the old shark cutter "DAGMAR AAEN" in 1988. Thereafter, he could undertake missions with his own boat.

He has been carrying out expeditions, not only in the extreme latitudes of the Arctic and the Antarctic, since 1977.

* 1980: Expedition to the Canadian Arctic
* 1981: Crossing the Atlantic with the "Golden Goose"
* 1983: Crossing Greenland by dog sledge
* 1984: Cape Horn rounded for the first by collapsible kayak
* 1985: Collapsible kayak expedition to the magnetic North Pole
* 1986: Mountain expedition to Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego
* 1987: Second Borneo expedition
* 1988: Tierra del Fuego expedition by collapsible kayak
* 1989: ICEWALK expedition: The first German to reach the North Pole on foot
* 30.12.1989: South Pole expedition: Crossing the Antarctic with Reinhold Messner by ski. The first person to reach both the North and the South Pole on foot and in one year
* 1991: ICESAIL expedition - part 1: Spitsbergen, France-Joseph-Land
* 1992: ICESAIL expedition - part 2: North East passage
* 1993: ICESAIL expedition - part 3: North West passage
* 1994: ICESAIL expedition - part 4: Alaska, Aleutian, Canada
* 1995/96: SEA, ICE & MOUNTAINS expedition: South pacific, Patagonia, Cape Horn and return to Germany
* 1997/98: ARCTIC PASSAGES expedition: ICEFLY - following the trail of Andrée, Greenland-Challenge - following the trail of the first and second German North Pole expedition
* 2000: SHACKLETON 2000: In Shackleton's wake - Following Shackleton across the most hazardous ocean of the world
* 2002: COLDER THAN ICE: Expedition through the North East passage
* 2003: RING OF FIRE expedition: From Dutch Harbor to the Aleutian Islands and through the North West Passage - Winter in Cambridge Bay
* 2004: ICEBOUND expedition: From Cambridge Bay through the North West passage
* 2006: ULTIMA THULE expedition: with dog sledges along the north coast of the Ellesmere Island / EASTERN GREENLAND: with the Dagmar Aaen along the east coast of Greenland
* 2007: I.C.E. 2007 expedition: international youth camp on Svalbard, circumnavigation of the archipelago Svalbard following the trail of the Schröder-Stranz expedition of 1912/13
