Today was quite an eventful and exciting day. The morning started of
with us going to the Dagmar Aaen to get the weather data. It was clear
today would be a foggy and windy day. Never the less, we were all pretty
excited to be going to see the Dettifoss and Selfoss waterfalls in the
Jokulsargljufur
National
Park, but first we each had to work on our projects. We had three hours
to toil over our different assignments which were all aimed at focusing
on our home countries. Once we were done we walked from the school, we
were working, to the Guesthouse Visir.
We had a lovely lunch which was beef and vegetable lasagne. Once lunch
was over we had about half an hour to prepare for our trip to the
waterfalls. At 13:30 we left Visir and travelled in the bus to the park.
The trip seemed to have only been about 45 minutes but we had a minor
stop along the way to explore the site were the movement of the tectonic
plates in Iceland had caused an earthquake during the 70´s. When we had
finally arrived the beauty of the Dettifoss waterfall had us all in awe.

The waterfall was gigantic and even though we were standing miles away,
somehow the mist from the waterfall still managed to reach us leaving
some of us partly drenched.
We
had to hike for a further 50 minutes to reach that Selfoss waterfall.
This waterfall seemed almost bigger than the first and it had little
lakes strewn around it. Once again the waterfall´s beauty seemed
implausible. We spent nearly three quaters of an hour watching the
rapids and listening to the thunderous waves of the water. All too
soon it seemed we were hiking back, towards the bus. The trip
back to Husavik seemed far shorter than the journey there. Once we had
arrived we had about an hour to laze about before dinner was ready.
Elise prepared a delicious fish and rice dish that we all thoroughly
enjoyed. Once the dishes were all washed up we went once more with
Ulrich to the school to complete our individual reports. After about
three hours we went back to the guesthouse to enjoy a goodnights
rest.
