ICE - CLIMATE - EDUCATION
2010
The
“Ice-Climate-Education” camp is taking place for the third time on
Iceland.
The small community of Húsavík in the northwest of the island is once
again host to the eleven participants taking part this year.
A fourth edition of the youth camp is in the planning and will once
again take place under the active support of Jack Wolfskin. The
participants of this year’s camp come from six different nations – young
people qualified from
Germany
(three),
South Africa
(two),
Namibia,
Estonia,
Austria,
Turkey,
the
Czech Republic
and, for the first time,
Romania.
The students were required to hand in a project on one to the following
themes:
1)
Preserving a lifestyle
2)
Forest Destruction means Climate Change
3)
The Road from
Copenhagen
The following items are planned for the Camp 2010: A
lecture on climate change (Dr. Dirk Notz), a lecture on the history of
whaling (Ulrich Jordan), a lecture on the rise of sea level (Kristin
Richter),
whale watching (North Sailing), sailing with North Sailing to Dalvik, an
overnight stay in the Skeid Guesthouse, an excursion to Dettifoss and
many other things. Before
arriving in the camp, the students will have prepared a report in which
they explain the effects of climate change in their respective
countries. The participants will take part in an experimental game on
the theme of climatic change during the camp as well.
As in the previous years, a diary will be written on the camp.
