Expedition start in Qaanaaq
Arved Fuchs and his three fellow team
members have been in Qaanaaq since the week before last. Following their
arrival in the small community, it was necessary to stow away the complete
freight consisting of 22 crates. During the first days, it was also a matter
of getting settled in; with temperatures of -25 °C, it is also necessary to
acclimatize oneself. Of course there is work to be done with the dogs. Fuchs
and his team must get each dog used to the other dogs and train with them in
order to get to know each one of them.

Last preparations take place in Qaanaaq
Arved Fuchs'
next expedition is not far off. In order to clear the details directly,
Arved Fuchs from Bad Bramstedt, is leaving next week for Greenland,
where the next tour will take place from April to May. In the small
community of Qaanaaq, Fuchs together with Raimund Koch, one of his crew
members, will make the necessary last preparations, so that the next
undertaking can start the best possible start. Fuchs is planning to travel
from Qaanaaq to the northwest coast of Greenland with two dog sleds. Further
details and the latest developments during the one week of preparation will
be available soon on this site.
Ice-bouy passes the 5.000 kilometer mark
On the 18th of August, Arved Fuchs set
out an ice-buoy on a compact ice-berg off the east coast of Greenland
(73°21,98'N / 21°39,62'W) and from this point the ice-berg drifted south
down the total coastline. It then took an easterly course at about the
latitude of Cape Farvel and has been drifting since then across the Atlantic
in the direction of the British Isles. In the meantime, the floatable buoy
has travelled far and will soon break the magical total distance of 5.000
kilometers - the least reading measured a total distance of 2.561 sea miles,
which is the equivalent of 4.909 kilometers. It remains to be seen which
path the bouy will take...
