SEA, ICE & MOUNTAINS 1995/96

The expedition between "The Tropics and the Perpetual Ice "was the completion of Roald Amundsen’s idea to circle both Americas.

After the North West Passage had been successfully navigated , Arved Fuchs and his crew aboard the Dagmar Aaen sailed on through the Pacific. They took part in the protest action against the French nuclear weapons tests on the Mururoa – Atoll, and finally reached the inland ice of Patagonia.

Here , the first ski crossing in the north to south direction was accomplished by the crew in 42 days.

. The Dagmar Aaen and her crew rounded the tempestuous Cape Horn and sailed homeward bound to Hamburg , thus achieving her aim of encircling the American continent.
