The
very last day at Húsavik was dominated by the final round of our
simulation game “CleanAir“. Since a test vote the previous day had
revealed that the participating nations were unable to agree on a common
resolution, some students came together in the afternoon and finally
produced a text acceptable to all. Accordingly the final voting
procedure on Thursday morning went on with surprising speed. All of the
five controversial paragraphs were accepted and the entire resolution
approved.
Ulrich was indeed satisfied with the progress and the results of the
first run of his simulation game. Initial comprehension difficulties had
been overcome and the students had embraced their roles and indeed
developed their own initiatives.
Shortly after our last meal at Visir suitcases were packed and the bus
arrived. At 14:00 it started to take us all the long way to Keflavik.
Due to the relative brevity of the previous night most of the group were
slumbering in no time at all.

Our bus driver managed to find a suitable pizzeria in Reykjavik that was
still open after nine o' clock p.m. In
some
nondescript suburb of Reykjavik we then enjoyed our last common meal.
Kristin left us at nearby Hafnarfjördur to spend some more days
with friends. At 11:00 p.m. we finally arrived at Keflavik airport and
took the plane to Copenhagen at 01:00 a.m.
There, it was Friday already, the group had to split up and say
good-bye.
At 7:00 a.m. Philipp was the first to leave, flying via Frankfurt for
Windhoek, Namibia.
With Copenhagen being an airport of some size indeed we temporarily lost
Tereza and Rene in the medley which resulted in some hectic SMS
exchanges. However, they eventually showed up again to say bye-bye to
the all the other I.C.E.- participants.
The wonderful times in Iceland were finally over. Again, this Youth-Camp
has been quite a success indeed. Our participants take home loads of new
information, impressions, experiences and insights.
And of course they all hope to meet again:
sometime, somewhere...
