Winter has arrived on the west coast of
Greenland.
The temperatures of the last few days have been around the freezing
point with snowstorms. A low
pressure
area caught up with us as well with winds of 7-8.
Despite the protected fiord we were in by Kraulshavn (Nuussuaq), the
winds were so strong that we could hardly reach land with our dingy; the
waves in the bay were just too big.
The winds calmed down a bit on the weekend but we decided to wait until
the beginning of the week to continue on. We are not far from our winter
camp in Upernavik. We will
most likely reach it on the weekend and start with the preparations for
the winter stay.

We plan to continue
measuring the numerous glaciers on the west coast of
Greenland
on the way. Fabian is completely in his element. We
documented
the Cornell Glacier (photo) yesterday; the analysis will take place
later. It is only 82 nautical miles from Nuussuaq to Upernavik. There,
at the beginning of October, we will leave the three behind who will be
spending the winter on the “Dagmar Aaen”. Kai Meibaum, Martin Varga and
Rémy Tokouda are looking forward to their winter job on our old lady.
