Programme Youth Camp
During their one-week stay in Longyearbyen, the
participants will spend part of their time at the University Centre in
Svalbard (UNIS). Lessons will take place here in the morning hours.
In addition, there are excursions and small
trips on the agenda.
A rough outline of the activities is as follows.
Changes in the programme are possible - this is the planned programme for
the camp on Spitbergen.
Saturday, July 14th
Arrival from Hamburg at 8:45 p.m , arrival in Longyearbyen
followed by a greeting, moving into the accommodation, supper together to
get to know one another – a get together
Sunday, July 15th
A tour through Longyearbyen, a visit to the Svalbard
Museum (www.svalbardmuseum.no),
a vist to the “Dagmar Aaen”, a visit to the Svalbard Gallery
Monday, July 16th
Lessons: Topics: oceanography / ocean ice / effects on the
glaciers and on the Arctic
After lunch: a hike in the near area (sarcophagus)
Evening: a lecture by Arved Fuchs
Tuesday, July 17th
Lessons: Topic: animals and plants in the Arctic
After lunch: a visit to the dog-sled farm in Adventdalen
Evening: eventually an Arctic barbecue
Wednesday, July 18th
Alternatively, a sail with the “Dagmar Aaen” in two
groups and group work in the UNIS
Thursday, July 19th
Lessons: Topic: people in the Arctic, an historical view of
Schröder- Stranz, whale hunting
After lunch: a hike to Björndalen – “Midnight Hike”
Friday July 20th
Presentation of the students (UNIS)
Saturday, July 21st
Free time – or maybe some other plan
Sunday, July 22nd
Departure from Longyearbyen at 8:00 a.m. – arrival in Hamburg at
3:05 p.m.
