The days are growing longer, air and water considerably cooler. We can see and feel the fact that we are once again in upper latitudes. The thermometer has dropped to about 14 °C. Big albatrosses accompany us majestically.

The "Dagmar Aaen" is really in her element here. The stoves give off a cozy warmth and there is a comfortable atmosphere under deck. No one utters a word now about potential air conditioners or a refrigerator. The night watch fetch their warm clothes and wear sea boots instead of going barefoot on deck.

Since Punta del Este the crew is no longer just international with a Swiss member (Marcel) but now not sloley German-speaking. John is Canadian and is doing the cooking for us. Therefore the language on board is mainly English, especially when official matters are to be spoken of - for example any safety instructions and at the table (as politeness demands).
