Cabedelo

At the beginning of the week the “Dagmar Aaen” reached her next destination. From the metropole Rio de Janeiro the ship headed for the province Paraíba and its community Cabedelo. Here is the only seaport in the province. The ship anchored in the Jacale Marina and there we had yet another crew change. After the skipper from Island headed for home in Rio, Elise and Annelie left the ship in Cabedelo and are on their way back to Germany.

New on board are Friedrich, Babett and Mauro a sailing instructor who the crew became acquainted with during the winter months spent in Ushuaia. Mauro was so impressed by the “Dagmar Aaen” and the expedition that he decided to join on for the return journey. He will be on board till the ship’s arrival in Brest. Friedrich and Babett are also newcomers on the “Dagmar Aaen” and will sail across the Atlantic to the Azores. Fabian, Krischan and Lauren are also members of the crew – together with the captain Arved Fuchs a crew of eight will tackle the Atlantic crossing.

Before the ship left the small harbor in Cabedelo in the course of the day, the crew once again made preparations for the Atlantic trip. Following innumerable bureaucratic procedures, water and fuel were bunkered and provisions taken on board. The “Dagmar Aaen” will crack the 3000-mile mark during the long journey and the 85 year old ship is still completely in her element and ready for the next Atlantic crossing.
